The spectacular opening event of Riga 2014 – European Capital of Culture on January 18, 2014  included two street theater shows produced by The Street Art and World Music Festival Re Re Riga!

The performances “Kamchàtka” and “Wandering Orquestra” were presented from companies based in Barcelona – a city rich of street theater traditions.  Shows were performed in public space of the Riga Central Market breaking down the boundaries of art and reality and blending the theater with improvisation. Language was heard minimally, actors used means of non-verbal communication – gestures, facial expressions, body expressions. Both performances invited to tear down the boundaries between the audience and the actors, to merge art with reality, surprising and creating a direct, simple and spontaneous dialogue with the audience. Both “Kamchàtka” and “Wandering Orquestra” were in Riga for the first time.

Street theater show „Kamchàtka“ is a witty story about 8 visitors from afar. The show is an experiment of improvisation, theatrical research of communication codes at specific locations and urban environments. Through humor and amusing performance of domestic situations the performers bring up some serious socio-political issues as well.
