This year, the festival of RE! Contemporary Circus and Street will be presenting two great circus shows at Piena Svētki in Ziemeļblāzma on 2nd August. Dutch/Belgian contemporary circus duo, Circus Katoen, and Animal Religion from Spain will be bringing thrilling and touching shows with impressive acrobatic tricks and juggling skills.

The concept of Tauromàquina was inspired by tauromaquia, a Spanish word that means the art of leading a bull, that is a cultural celebration all over Spain. The traditional bullfight is a duel between a bull and a man, a ritual that brings us together with death. Tauromàquina is a safe but still intriguing duel that catches the attention of the audience.

Using different circus discipline such as acro-dance, handstands and whips show tells us about the differences and the similarities between the humans, animals and machines. In this performance you can see the immortal machine express its feelings and emotions while the artist uses the power of the machine to create unthinkable and eccentric movements.

Animal Religion is an extravagant contemporary circus/street theatre company from Spain, which explores balance, sound, percussion, clown, animal movement and astronomy. They make their shows in order to encourage the wild and illogical within the audience, and to try to put a light on the weird routines of modern life.

Ex Aequo is a wonderful family performance of two young circus artists who surprise and move you with their impressive acrobatics.

Where will we place her houseplant, where will we put the closet, and where will his clothes go? In Ex Aequo two characters are going to live together. They both have important stuff, all of which deserves its own place in their house. In a playful and physical way they explore the area where they are going to live together, and won’t rest until everything has found its place. They challenge each other, push each other to their limits, and co-operate until they’ve found the balance.

Sophie van der Vuurst de Vries from Netherlands and Willem Balduyck from Belgium forms the contemporary circus/physical theatre duo Circus Katoen. Both started circus at a very early age, they met in 2006, and are working together since specializing in partner acrobatics.
