MIONIA (Latvia)
MIONIA (Latvia)
Mionia is a project by artist and musician Maija Līcīte. It gained publicity in 2010, when Mionia became known as ‘the iPhone girl’ – her first songs were created and performed with the help of iPhone 4 app NanoStudio
Mionia is certainly an individualist. Her performance can be compared to a monodrama or open conversation with the spectators. Her music speaks about courage and freedom, the Universe and the human soul. Her music is narrative, so it is no wonder that Mionia has successfully collaborated with filmmakers. Sad Story became the theme song of the film Film by Ivo Briedis, and Black&White was used in the documentary produced by the Rīgas Laiks magazine.
At the moment Mionia is working on new songs and preparing her debut album, in which she expands her interest in pop music by incorporating the poignant nostalgia of her music in catchy, rhythmic melodies that could be called artistic pop. She performs solo, but is also open to collaboration with other artists.
