The Contemporary Circus and Street Art Festival “Re Riga!” announces its programme and invites you to tame the animal within.

The Re Riga! festival programme has been announced, and tickets for performances at the Rīgas Cirks arena are available from June 1. This year’s festival offers a diverse range of performances by artists from around the world, as well as masterclasses and engaging activities for children, youth, and families.

Festival Artistic Director Mārtiņš Ķibers explains:
“We’re talking about the animal within us — awakening it, exploring the body’s capabilities, and comparing what we ourselves can do to what circus artists achieve with their bodies.”

This year, Re Rīga! explores the theme of the human-animal — the instinctive part of ourselves we can nurture, tame, care for, love, and soothe. As part of nature, humans are subject to the same rules as all living beings. And yet, we strive to be those who can control our instincts, even when it’s difficult. The festival invites us to reflect on this inner animal and our relationship with it.

One of the highlights this year will be a deep dive into the bold physicality of contemporary Spanish circus artists. Ķibers adds:
“Spanish performers have a unique temperament — a sense of theatricality and a tendency to transform everything through humour.”

Audiences can expect to encounter an absurd hero and a giant red ball, a poetic ritual of persistence, a performance where a woman balances not just her body but the weight of history, and much more. The festival will also serve as a prelude to a new focus for Rīgas Cirks in 2025: a spotlight on the vibrant circus culture of Flanders and Wallonia.

For over 12 years, Re Rīga! has introduced Latvian audiences to high-quality and innovative contemporary circus and street performances from Europe and beyond. This year’s edition offers a wide-ranging programme — shows at Rīgas Cirks and other venues, a free outdoor programme in urban spaces, masterclasses for professionals and performing arts students, circus workshops, and family-friendly events.

In 2025, Re Rīga! invites you to experience the circus as it is today — bold, intimate, and deeply human. Witness a poetic encounter between an absurd hero and a red ball, a woman’s act of balance against historical gravity, the construction of a home as metaphor and memory, and the weaving of stories and ropes into a collective web.
Re Rīga! encourages us to feel and to remember that inside each of us lives a creature that longs to leap, to fly, to play — and to be just a little bit wild.
