Founded in Istanbul in 1996, Baba ZuLa. The unrivalled masters of 21st century Turkish psychedelic music, provide unique experience to enjoy shamanic ritual-like performances. Their shows are a mixture of disciplines of art, often featuring belly dancers, elaborate costumes, poetry, theatre and live drawing, delivering viewers a tantalizing audio-visual feast. By mixing oriental instruments such as the electric saz, darbuka, and spoons with electronics and modern sounds, BaBa ZuLa creates a sound, that they call Istanbul psychodelia. Their music is Oriental rock’n roll that rolls in futuristic way inspired by the late 60’s.
Baba ZuLa have performed in the Venice Biennial in Italy and numerous world class music and film festivals as Simdi/Now Festival (Berlin), the Boost Festival and Paradiso (Amsterdam), Roskilde festival (Denmark), Gypsy Festival (Drom, New York) and Chicago World Music Festival (Martyrs-Chicago).
