For over 12 years, the international Contemporary Circus and Street Art Festival RE RIGA! has been introducing Latvian audiences to high-quality and innovative performances from the European and global circus scene. Organized by Rīgas cirks in collaboration with Pievilcīga pilsētvides biedrība, it is the only circus event of this scale in Latvia. The festival began at a time when contemporary circus was just starting to be discovered in Latvia, but today RE RIGA! has become a significant circus platform in the Baltics, bringing together international artists, circus professionals, and audiences in Riga.
Every year, the festival offers a diverse program – performances at Rīgas cirks and other art venues, a wide range of free open-air events, masterclasses for circus professionals and performing arts students, circus workshops and activities for children, youth, and families, as well as post-show talks, discussions, and participatory events for different social groups.
This year, RE RIGA! invites audiences to experience circus as it is today – bold, intimate, and human (or perhaps even more-than-human).
Circus artists are unique beings – their bodies embody primal intelligence, emotional precision, and creative risk. They walk on their hands, defy gravity, and transform everyday objects into impossible worlds. In pushing their own limits, they also reflect our own.
This year’s program will feature: an absurd hero encountering a giant red ball in a poetic ritual of persistence; a woman balancing not only with her body but with the weight of history; a house being built as a metaphor and an object at once; stories and RE RIGA! invites you to feel and witness the truth that within all of us live creatures longing to leap, to fly, to play, and to be a little wild.
