This year, the festival RE RE RIGA! was attended by 20 000 people

Last weekend was the end of RE RE RIGA! – the street art and world music festival, featured in the official program of „Riga 2014 – European Capital of Culture”. This year the festival was attended by 20 000 people during its four days.

Mārtiņš Ķibers, the creative director of the festival, makes the following evaluation of this year’s festival edition: “The high attendance and diverse crowds at the open-air and indoor shows of the festival indicates that such arabesque events have become an important part of this city’s life, and we’re most pleased to observe that. This is already the second edition of RE RE RIGA!, and it’s apparent that the festival has found its audience.” Ķibers also expresses gratitude to all supporters of the festival, the RE RE RIGA! team and more than 40 volunteers who helped organizing this collective celebration.

“RE RE RIGA! aims to popularize – and establish in this city – an art form that is relatively recent, fresh and inspiring to audiences of all age groups, genders and nationalities”, Ķibers concludes.

The events of the festival were also praised by its guests – artists and journalists from abroad, who especially appreciated the quality of the programming. The festival occurred during four days and presented a program of contemporary circus at the Riga Congress Centre, whereas the central square of the festival near the same building gathered the most diverse – and largest – crowd with its performances of street theatre, circus shows as well as its circus school, open for both experienced and inexperienced participants.

Various shows were presented in the urban environment of Riga – at the square near The Laima Clock and at the intersection of Kaļķu and Vaļņu street. These events gained a particularly dense public response, since they were observed not only by attendants of the festival, but also by curious passers-by. The RE RE RIGA! music stage, however, took place at the culture chalet “Esplanāde 2014” where, on a Saturday night, the festival was closed with a fantastic performance by Turkish stars of world music “BaBa ZuLa”.

This year over 100 artists from 12 countries participated in RE RE RIGA!, resulting in the largest contemporary circus and world music festival in the Baltic states.
