During August 15–20 The Contemporary Circus and Street Art Festival Re Rīga! invites you to attend not only a list of various great shows, but also four masterclasses intended for circus professionals, emerging circus artists, artists of other genres close to contemporary circus art (contemporary dance, acting etc) as well as for journalists, critics and students. The masterclasses will cover various aspects of circus art – they invite you to explore the manipulation of objects and street art processes, lead you to think about how to look at and write about circus art, as well as promote the artist’s individual creative process.

All masterclasses have the same APPLICATION form.

We ask you to apply as early as possible, the number of places is limited, so priority is given to participants – on a first-come, first-served basis!

Travel and accommodation stipends are available by Grassroot artists’ network for those who want to participate and live outside of Riga! Indicate the support you need when filling out the application form.

CIRCUS OUTSIDE THE CIRCUS: ON THE PROCESS OF CREATING STREET ART PERFORMANCES AND INTERACTION WITH THE SPECTATOR

When: August 15–17
Where: at the Riga Circus School and its surroundings (25, Zeļļu Street)
For whom: Representatives of the circus or other performing arts with an interest in the specifics of street art. Aimed at clowns, actors, circus artists, musicians, social workers in the territory who want to explore stage work on the street and unconventional spaces.

MASTERCLASS ON MODERN JUGGLING CONCEPTS

When: August 17–18
Where: at the Riga Circus School  (25, Zeļļu Street)
For whom: Jugglers of various skill levels. This masterclass is for professionals or circus students who want to think about and examine what juggling is and what it can be.

YOUNG STAGE: MASTERCLASS FOR FUTURE PERFORMING ARTS PROFESSIONALS

When: August 17–20,
Where: at the Riga Circus School (25, Zeļļu Street) and at the Rīgas cirks (4, Merķeļa Street)
For whom: Emerging circus artists aged ~18-20 who want to expand their creative experience.

AROUND WRITING, AROUND CIRCUS: A MASTERCLASS ON UNDERSTANDING AND WRITING ABOUT CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS ARTS

When: August 18–19
Where: at the Rīgas cirks (4, Merķeļa Street)
For whom: Journalists, stage art critics – professionals and students.
