SIXTH “TAKE MY PICTURE”

What happens to the body when it wants to be funny, bold or a little magical – the kind of pose that makes you say: “this deserves a photo!”? In the contemporary dance performance for the whole family Take a Picture, two dancers play with familiar poses, gestures, and movements from moments when we try to “look special”. Hands, legs, and glances twist into a moving collage, where an everyday pose becomes a cartoon-like absurdity, an illusion or an acrobatic surprise. With humour, contact dance, and tiny theatrical acts of mischief, the performance invites young spectators to discover that imagination has arms, legs, and a lively sense of play – especially when we move together.
SIXTH is a collective of artists who share a similar worldview that they discovered during their studies, and they have remained together even after graduating from Latvian Academy of Culture. This generation of choreographers strives to create authentic and inclusive dance art. Through their work, they aim to shed light on current societal issues through their performances, and provide a platform to share stories that have personally impacted the artists. The company’s focus is the human body and its movement, and its members view them as powerful and self-sufficient forms of expression, which can evoke great empathy and offer abroad perspective on human existence in the modern world.
